Patient Assistance Grant Program
Help patients access financial support before and after transplant
Our goal is to help your patients overcome financial barriers to transplant. You can apply for our patient financial grants for your patient. The grants help patients with expenses before and after transplant.
Explore the grants available for your patients and apply for appropriate grants on their behalf. A team member from your transplant center or the patient’s clinical trials medical team must submit the grant application for it to be accepted.
Family Typing Grant
The Family Typing Grant covers HLA typing for up to five first-degree relatives, such as siblings, parents and children. Patients are eligible if they don’t have adequate health insurance coverage to cover the cost of HLA typing for potential related donors. Access complete program information and eligibility criteria.
Typing services must occur at one of these four participating labs in order for the grant to be approved:
- American Red Cross Northeast (ARC NE)
- Kashi Clinical Labs
Be The Match Foundation® pays the selected lab directly for all approved grants.
Search Assistance Fund
Request Search Assistance Funds for patients whose formal unrelated donor search through the National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP)/Be The Match® may be delayed because the patient:
- Does not have adequate health insurance coverage
- Is in the process of obtaining hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) coverage/approval
You must receive Search Assistance Fund approval from the NMDP/Be The Match prior to requesting donors or cord blood units. If approved, the grant information is sent directly to your transplant center and the search process can begin.
Grant approval ensures your transplant center will receive funding for specified search activities. Search Assistance Fund grants are paid through reimbursement to your transplant center. Access complete program information and eligibility criteria.

Ira and Diana Riklis Crisis Grant
Patients may be eligible for the Ira and Diana Riklis Crisis Grant if they face a significant financial crisis that threatens their ability to access post-transplant care and continued compliance. An extremely limited number of $10,000 grants are available yearly.
Grant recipients must be facing extraordinary circumstances that pose a direct financial barrier to accessing post-transplant care. Contact our Patient Outcomes and Experience team for more information.
How the grant program works
If you have a patient who would be a good candidate for a grant, apply on your patient's behalf. Grant applications must be submitted by a team member from your transplant center or the patient’s clinical trials medical team to be accepted.
Our Patient Outcomes and Experience team reviews each request to determine patient eligibility and assess need. Grant amounts can vary based on program type, budget and patient need.
Our Patient Assistance Grants are funded by the Be The Match Foundation and facilitated through our Patient Outcomes and Experience team.
The grants were a gift from heaven. When you’re sick and can’t work for a year or more, you don’t know what you’re going to do…the grants made such a big difference in our lives!”
–Bruce, transplant recipient
