Medicare 101

Description

This is an on-demand self-paced eLearning course. The course is approximately 90 minutes long. You can stop and resume at any point during the training. The course may be repeated as often as you wish.  

This course includes three modules:

  • Module 1: Describes Medicare coverage for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT).
  • Module 2: Describes coding, billing, and reimbursement for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS).
  • Module 3: Describes coding, billing, and reimbursement for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) in the Medicare hospital outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS). 

Learning Objectives 

  • Describe Medicare coverage for HCT
  • Apply Medicare coverage concepts to their own practice
  • Describe the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) and outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS)
  • Identify correct HCT procedure codes for inpatient and outpatient hospital settings
  • Describe how HCT procedure codes reported on inpatient hospital claims generate Medicare reimbursement for HCT
  • Describe how hospital outpatient coding and billing impact HCT reimbursement
  • Apply knowledge of reimbursement methodology to their own hospital setting

Target Audience 

This training is for transplant center professionals who want to learn more about Medicare coverage for hematopoietic cell transplant, or HCT, also known as bone marrow transplant.
