Education
- Umbilical Cord Blood Collection Training for Public Donation: Instruction on proper cord blood collection procedures and a post-training assessment. After successful completion of training and assessment, the obstetrician receives a confirmation email, and notification is also provided to the cord blood bank designated by the obstetrician (if your bank chooses to participate). Training is approximately 7 minutes in duration and is available on mobile devices.
- Public Cord Blood Donation: Its clinical uses and the OB role (PPT): Instruction on proper cord blood collection procedures and a post-training assessment. After successful completion
of training and assessment, the obstetrician receives a confirmation email, and notification is also provided to the cord blood bank designated by the obstetrician (if your bank chooses to participate). Training is approximately 7 minutes in duration
and is available on mobile devices.
Medical Position Papers
Several medical societies have issued statements on cord blood banking. This information can be shared with potential donors to help them understand cord blood options.
- American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) has published a Committee Opinion on Umbilical Cord Blood Banking, Committee Opinion on Delayed Cord Blood Clamping and FAQs about cord blood donation.
- American Medical Association (AMA) has adopted ethical guidelines for physicians about umbilical cord blood.
- The American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (ASBMT) has published a position statement and committee report on cord blood collection and preservation.
